About Us

Black Girl Walking Club is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to creating safe and empowering spaces for Black women. We believe in the power of movement, community, and self-care, and we come together through walking as a way to connect with one another and with our environment. But our work doesn’t stop there. Beyond our walks, we host a variety of enriching social events, including retreats, panel discussions, wellness workshops, and networking gatherings designed to uplift, inspire, and support Black women on their personal and professional journeys.

Our mission is to foster a sense of belonging, encourage mental and physical wellness, and build lasting connections. Whether it’s sharing stories, engaging in meaningful conversations, or simply enjoying each other’s company, Black Girl Walking Club is more than just a walking group — it’s a movement for healing, empowerment, and solidarity. We are committed to cultivating a supportive network where Black women can show up as their authentic selves, thrive together, and walk boldly into their power.

Dr. Arcia M. Stokes founded Black Girl Walking Club, Inc. in June 2024, following the completion of her doctoral program. After gaining a significant amount of weight during the intense dissertation process, Arcia wanted to prioritize her health and find a way to move her body while fostering connections with other women. Her vision was to create a space where Black women could come together, walk, and build a strong sense of community and sisterhood. This led to the birth of Black Girl Walking Club, Inc. (BGWC). Since its inception, the group has flourished, officially becoming a nonprofit organization. Arcia remains deeply committed to creating empowering spaces for Black women to thrive emotionally, physically, and mentally.
